Recital Series: Windswept II

Rochelle Mann is a former Featured Scholar at Fort Lewis College, where she served as Music Department Chair as well as Acting Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Holding degrees from Indiana and Arizona State Universities, she is now a Professor Emerita with a record of outstanding service to the music education profession as an author, teacher, and mentor. Dr. Mann has served as Principal Flute of the San Juan Symphony since 1983, and continues to perform as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the US. In 2012 she was honored as one of Durango’s Sweethearts of the Arts.

Rebecca Ray has degrees from Ithaca College (1994 BM, Oboe Performance and Music Education) and the University of New Mexico (1997 MM, Oboe Performance). Ms. Ray’s former positions in education include Instructor of Oboe and Bassoon at New Mexico State University, Elementary Music Teacher for Las Cruces Public Schools, Director of Bands at the Bosque School in Albuquerque, and interim Oboe Instructor at the University of New Mexico. Currently, Ms. Ray’s teaching focuses on private instruction and her work as an active clinician and double reed advocate in local school band programs.Currently principal oboist with both the Las Cruces Symphony and the San Juan Symphony, Ms. Ray has an active performance career. She is also second chair oboe and English horn in The Santa Fe Symphony, and freelances regularly on oboe and English horn with the New Mexico Philharmonic. Ms. Ray’s other freelance groups include Santa Fe Pro Musica, Opera Southwest, Albuquerque Chamber Soloists, and the 505 Winds. Ms. Ray’s studio in uptown Albuquerque, Desert Double Reeds, specializes in oboe instruction and double-reed family instrument repair. She moved from her home state of Connecticut to New Mexico in 1995.

Denise Reig Turner is principal bassoonist of the San Juan Symphony, Opera Southwest, the NM Performing Arts Society, Festival Ballet Albuquerque and is second bassoon/assistant principal of the New Mexico Philharmonic/New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. She was principal bassoonist and frequent soloist with the former Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque for 18 years and has been on the faculty at UNM since 1995 where she teaches bassoon, coaches chamber music and performs with the “New Mexico Winds” faculty woodwind quintet. Ms. Turner has performed and taught masterclasses throughout Europe, Mexico and the Southwest.
